Purple WIP

This is an old DMC pattern All Rings with lots of cut and tie. It all starts with a small ring of 4 petals not connected. The small ring connects to the larger ring  (the small ring in the center).
When making the small ring to connect there is always a small gap. On the first ring of the 4 pedals, working the first DS next I added a P  (I could use a Mock p in the beginning) and continue the stitch count weaving the beginning thread into the stitches. One less thread to weave in. Then tatted the next 3 petal rings. When the last ring is completed I joined to the beginning P and sewed the thread in. No more gap.
When making the big round to avoid another loose thread I used SSSR. Working the method above for the first 3 rings. On the 4th petal ring work the ring to the last P and make the SSSR.
CL the ring,  join to the first ring and make the loop around the shuttle and ring now close with the shuttle and you are ready to start the outer ring. This makes for a nice smooth and even rings when connecting to each other with no gaps and only one thread to weave in at the end of the round.
I suppose one could continue with SSSR making another small ring for connections but that is way too much brain power. I am happy the way it is!!! Besides it is good practice to weave some threads in!!(:

Snowman Quilting

Baby Quilt showing the many ways to hand applique.

Easy Street, sewing strips to make  16 Blocks.

Hand Quilting the Snowman Quilt. Tools of the trade are Clover Chalk Wheel, #5 mechanical pencil, ruler and scissors. The side is over half way quilted.

I paid $20 three years ago for this Qsnap frame. I now know why this person never used it. Those half rounds are very hard and almost impossible to snap around the frame. To protect the embroidery I used a thin muslin on top of the quilt before getting them to snap on. Because these are hard to add I most likely will not use it again.

Crazy Quilts Are Quilts Too Quilt Show
This is the second year Thearica Burroughs at Pigtales and Quilts blog www.pigtalesandquilts.com is hosting a crazy quilt show.
Thearica, a wonderful crazy quilter, has set up a show for all of us Crazies to show off our "hand" work. Most of us use a machine to quilt the pieces but all the stitches and laces are sewen by hand. Sometimes a seam will take me an hour to finish it but it is so rewarding.

Doily and Quilt Block

The Doily is completed!!  I have added the Three Leaf Clover pattern by Sharon Albers to the final round of the Blue Doily by Eileen Stafford. I wanted the doily to be larger and the Three Leaf Clover pattern filled it out.

The local quilt shop has 2 blocks per month. The beginning blocks were all pieced using 1/2 square triangles. This time it is machine applique. I used a satin stitch on the light blue and blind hem stitch for the melons. Found this old button for the center. The melons are padded with bamboo batting.
