Rattle Snake

I let the dogs out and we all walked right pass this small diamond back. He must have just eaten because he did not rattle or coil.  Our place is all fenced with metal and he must have squeezed in. One can see to the upper left where I opened the gate and stood on the cement to open it.   It has been so hot (24 days over 100) and DRY this summer. This is the first rattler we have seen but we do have 5 ft red racer and a bull snake roaming around. They eat mice and suppose to keep the diamond backs out.

Hubby shot the head off and he coiled.

Yowsers, I'm not sure I'd want to visit that part of the country. Take care and look before walking forward next time please.

I'm so glad neither you or your dogs were bitten. We had a baby rattler in our basement (where my bedroom was) when I was a girl. Mom killed it with a broom, not knowing what it was. My dad was a rockhound and had brought a crate of rocks in that he'd found in the desert. After that he always unpacked the crates on the lawn FIRST.

oh dear mother of God, i can hardly manage looking at the pictures. My hubby always says the only good snake is a dead one....LOL I personally do not believe in killing anything, but my only exception is a deadly venimous snake and or spiders. Hate them both. If they are not venimous or harmful to humans and our pets then i say it is okay just let them go. But I am petrafied of both....

I’m almost afraid to say this out loud; but, the 6 years we’ve lived in NM in the far SW part (the boot), I’ve never seen any diamond or black rattlers. Thank goodness. I had enough poisonous snakes to last me a lifetime in eastern WA, Bullhead, AZ; and the high Sierras of northern California. LOL I’m not afraid of snakes, have chopped up my share; but, do like to see them FIRST. Also on my ‘endangered list’ (if they meet me) are Gila Monsters. On the other hand I had a pet King Snake when I was 9 and lived in Bullhead City, AZ. But they are good snakes, like garden snakes and bull snakes. My husband HATES snakes and won’t even look at them when they’re on TV screen. ish....
Glad you and pups didn’t get to close up and personal. xx bev

They are there and surprised you have not seen them. DH is like your DH!!! When we lived in Mexico DH said we are moving when I see a scorpion. There goes one across the floor and he jumps on the couch and run him down. MEN!!!
