Santa and Tatting

Christmas will be here soon and Miss Ella needs a Christmas stocking. My niece will be 10 months in Dec.  German Belsnickle is needle punch and appliqued to the stocking.  The pattern was designed by Cathy Sowers of Four Ewe Farm. It worked up quickly, about 5 hours.

This tatted edging looks like hearts and will be the trim below her name.
This is the 3rd batch of cherries and the last. The rest are for the birds who can reach them better than I!!

Happy 4th!

Ship Blue Nose, Rabbit hooked rug, Tatted CQ Rat and Willie

The Bluenose is one of the most famous schooners in the world. She was built in Nova Scotia in 1921, and sailed the fishing banks off the cost of Newfoundland until she sunk on a reef near Haiti in 1946 in 1946. She was the centerpiece of Canada’s exhibition at the 1933 “Century of Progress” exhibition in Chicago, and its likeness is still found on the Canadian dime. On the quilt block, the Bluenose schooner is surrounded by a wreath of Canadian maple leaves. The wreath halves are joined by a stylized crown which is found on Canada’s national emblem.

Ms Rabbit, the Flag Lady is finished. It is a hooked rug wall hanging.

Bday gift for my sister. These are so easy to make up, just think about a Christmas Tree with them. It is a tatted snowflake with a bead in center. It is attached to the bracelet only at the top. The rest is free standing and when hung in a window on a sunny day, it just sparkles light all over the room. For it to hang U need to tat a small circle with Ps and chain down and connect to the ring and back up attaching to the first P. That will create a hanger insert. It is tatted with size 40 Lizbeth thread.
The pattern is "First Snowfall" by     Robin Perfetti   tattingbythebay.blogspot.com

Oh my, they look delicious!!

Thank U Mom for the treat!!

Finished another Crazy Quilt Hexie. Under the strawberry plant is a beaded white Rat eating a strawberry!

Memorial Day, Ship Block and CQ Cat

I would love to see the Draft so these young people have more respect for our country.
My Dad was a navigator and made it home from WW2 but many did not. He was shot down in France and some of the gunners in the belly of his plane didn't come home.

The next ship block. The wreath halves are joined by a stylized crown which is found on Canada’s national emblem

Working on a strawberry plant in a crazy quilt block. I will have a beaded mouse added next week.

Sample Ship, CQ, Ms Rabbit Flag Lady

MS Rabbit, the Flag Lady!  She is almost hooked but still need to get the dye pot out and dye red for the flag. The grey on the border doesn't look good so will rip out and add the brown border.

Found the cross stitched butterfly in the cq scraps. Just right for a center block. One seam still needs some bead work and the silk flowers are finished.

Here is Apple Blossom's last year BOM. I appliqued by hand 3 of the flowers and now machine quilting. It is a table runner to hang in back of a coffee table to hide all the TV cords.
Song of Solomon sampler designed by Robyn Melia.  It is an interesting pattern and takes time, a long time project!!  I have been working about an hour every night since Feb.  Really have to pay close attention, and lots of Ribbits!!

Have a great week everyone!

CQ Block and New Projects

April crazy quilt block for the Hexie quilt. The blue bird is worked on felt using long and short stitch then sewed down on to fabric.
Started working on "The Ladies of the Sea".  The center will be the ship.

Started hooking Ms Rabbit and maybe it will be done my July! Need to dye some wool red using Rit Dyes. The red wool I have is from a skirt and has been washed with lots of vinegar but still bleeds. Will throw it away.

Have a great week everyone!

Baby Blanket and Tatted Socks for Ms Ella

Quilt is finished and ready to be mailed to Ms Ella in Boston, Mass.
The crazy quilt patches are machine quilted with the feather stitch and the rest is free motion stippling and Motifs on the blue border. This was shown in an earlier post. The mice in the outer border were stippled around them to make them stand out.

Purchased knitted socks with tatted edging. It is an easy ring and chain but must stretch after each ring. This pkg of socks are from birth to 2 yrs so she will get some wear out them.
Knitted baby hat, the first one was way too small.

French knot tree and sheep Hexie block.  Along with a  beaded turtle and found these pheasant earnings, just what this block needed!  Learning to combine seam treatments. The top one has 3 with beads.

CQ Hexie

Finished another Hexie block from Kathy Shawkl's class. The flowers is an applique technique called 'broderie perse'. It is a group of flowers cut out and appliqued down then embellished with threads.  The rooster was suppose to be the same but the thread painting took over.  The Cat is a raised technique stuffed with cotton, appliqued to fabric and embroidered. The pink "L" is silk ribbon Monogram. Finished the seam treatments this week.

All nine chickens are laying eggs so we are in overload!!  Last night we had a fruit salad with Raspberry dressing and a Crescent Egg Roll. Delicious..

Baby Quilt is almost ready for the binding. Found some cute ducks, butterflies and bunny for quilting around.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Strawberry jam for my honey made from fresh strawberries not frozen!

This is the border for the Viking Ship. It is worked on Fiddlers Cloth 18 count.

The baby quilt is ready for machine quilting

This is how I do my binding. The start is folded into a triangle and then folded over and ready to sew. The end is tucked inside and fold to the back for hand stitching. Quick, easy and professional.

Flannel sheep for the backing. It has been washed in hot water and tossed in the dryer.

Have a wonderful Valentine's Day!!

Hooked Flower Rug

I began learning how to rug hook with this rug in the mid 70's . The middle four flowers were hooked along with some grey. It got packed away and last year I found it and proceeded to hook away. The grey was gone so I found this nice green plaid and I like better than an all grey background. Below is how I finished the edging with a whip stitch.  A 40 year rug in the making!! (:
