Tatting Bookmarks

Wednesday is tatting day at the Senior Citizens. I have 6 gals tatting in various stages. Three of the ladies finished the Star Bookmark. The pattern is from Marilee Rockley and is well illustrated. Thank you Marilee. Next week we will try the Tatted Linked Ring Bookmark by Gale Marshall. Another excellent pattern for beginners. She shows 3 different ways to read a pattern. The homework for this week is a chain edging. Just working on chains with big thread will help them with their DS and the flip. It will make the rings go much easier.

Brazilian Embroidery Fuchisas and Almond Blossoms

Completed the Petite Fuchsia with field flowers. The Burgundy petals were made with a knotted double cast-on stitch. Once you do a few it becomes fun making them. The thread used was Lola. The coral cups were made with bullion stitch. The Nova thread was thick and slippery thus making it hard to make the bullions. Pistil stitchs were made at the top to complete the flower. (long stitch with french knots using glory threads). The Blue Flowers below are Almond Blossoms with pink field flowers. They are very similar to a spider web rose in Silk Ribbon Embroidery. There are 4 spokes and the Bocule Thread is woven in and out. Using Frost Thread and a pistil stitch holds the Bocule Threads down.

Tattted Blue Heart

I started this heart in Jan but realized it was going to be too big for my heart projects. I have finished it and it is no longer a UFO!! The pattern is from Tat Chat Heart. Flora Thread #20 was used and the size is 4" x 3 1/2". There is a problem in the top of heart. I am trying new patterns tatting more than just chains and rings. Some patterns are easier to read and tat than others..

Circle of Flowers

I finished my Gerone Daisy using Lola 075 with the Knotted Daisy Flower and Glory 25 for the center using the Pistel Stitch. On my BDE Heart Embroidery I did not know how to to the knotted daisy flower. I made a lazy dazy stitch then added the bullion. Thanks to Rita's good illustrations I will make them the correct way. They are not perfect but that takes time! On my lower bud I added an extra bullion because I needed to balance the red on the other side.

Cathy's 100 Post

Congratulations Cathy on celebrating your 100 posts! Go to Cathy's blog "Crazy By Design" and sign up for her Giveaway!!
Her crazy quilting is beautiful especially the redwork. She has lots of pictures on her recent trip to Tubac, AZ. In the early 90's there was nothing there when we were RVing.
Iris has a new tias (tat it and see) on her blog, http://irisniebach.blogspot.com . I am going to try it but not sure if I am able to figure it all out!

Pin Cushion Doll

Edging is from the Tatting Book of Nellie Hall Youngburg (1921) on page 5. It will be placed around the neck of the doll. The Doll is suppose to fit in the center of this skirt!

These dolls were purchased at the Dollar Store. Each lady in my quilting group is to make a pin cushion doll. Peggy has her finished. The rest of us are still figuring out how to put this together.

Brazilian Embroidery Circle of Flowers

This is a beginners class in Brazilian Embroidery. We all have the pattern "Circle of Flowers" with thread except me. I have purchased a lot of BDE Threads for another UFO Project. Now the thread has found a new home. For the Branches to form the Circle I used Iris 160 in a stem stitch. The twigs are a couching stitch using Iris 162. The leaf pattern is the Leaf Stitch just like the Fishbone Stitch in Crazy Quilting. If there is a difference I would like someone to explain it. The thread is Iris 302. It is a thread with green and gold so I manipulated the thread to where I wanted the colors to be. Our teacher is Rita Goff. She is very good explaining and has clear illustrations. We all thank her for taking on this project.

Secret Valentine Exchange

Thank you Bina Madden for the Valentine Exchange!! The hearts are beautiful and I wear the red heart all the time. Look closely at the ecru heart. It has a second motif added with beads. She also included a big heart to hang in my window, a ball of multi color #20 Flora Thread, my favorite, red ribbon and delicious homemade Cashew Roca. It is so good!!!

Valentine Post Card

The Cock-a-doddle Heart Post Card was the beginning of my postcards in 2006. I have learned a lot since then and enjoy making them for special people. Our Quilting group sends post cards to the men and women in the service. On this card one I was learning how to do thread painting.

Crazy Quilt Wall Hanging

The past few days I have been finishing the embroidery on the last blocks of the Crazy Quilt wall hanging BOM. Today I began sewing them together. The design is a 2008 block of the month by Victorian Quilt Designs. I have chosen to do my own embroidery stitches. These blocks all have to be hand sewing on the top and on the bottom.

In the center of the flower are 3 Pistils stitches. The leaves are Satin Stitch using a multi color thread.
Filed Flowers and fine growth will be added latter.
