In 2005, at our local quilt show, we had J Michelle Watts for a workshop in machine redwork. The pattern we used was the Spanish Cross, a collection of contemporary cross designs for redwork embroidery. On the sewing machine the stitch that was used is the triple stitch or jean stitch with open toe foot and Mettler silk finish cotton #770 or Aurifil 28 wt. #2260. I did try the machine stitch and it did look pretty good but I still prefer the hand embroidery look. I hand stitched one cross and it went into the UFO pile. This is the year to complete many UFOs!!! So last month this floated to the top of the pile and it is completed. I machine quilted the 13" x 42" using straight lines with the sun ray affect in each corner of the crosses arms.
If you would like the pattern visit One Horse Studio in Roswell, NM www.jmichellewatts.com
There are lots of SouthWest patterns including another set of crosses.
